Hi! I’m Abbey Bresett, Founder and Owner of Mint & Ivy Gifting. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., I now live in Alexandria with my husband and 2 children (13 & 11). 

Mint & Ivy was founded with the core belief that every occasion should be celebrated – large or small. We don’t want the reality of modern life to get in the way of letting someone know they are appreciated or remembered. Whether it’s your Mother-in-law’s birthday, a dear friend’s promotion, destination wedding or client list of 1,000, we would be honored to help. 

How/Why did you start your business? 

While working in fundraising/event planning for almost 15 years, I was always on the hunt for unique and fun ways to acknowledge our board members, supporters, and event/conference participants. I found the lack of selection frustrating (tired plastic wrapped gift baskets and generic swag, anyone?). While I knew what I wanted, a demanding workload made it hard to find the time to source and assemble these gifts myself. The same rang true for my personal gifts. I loved finding the perfect something for my friends and family, but I was always crunched for time. I knew I wasn’t alone.  I decided to combine my business/marketing knowledge with my passion for gifting and took a chance. I  created the business that I wish existed. 

What’s a typical day like for you? 

I am an early riser and try to get up around 5am. (My younger self would hate that sentence!). I like a little quiet before the chaos starts. Once the kids are at school, I spend the heart of the day like many small business owners – doing a little bit of everything. My evenings are generally spent driving to various sports practices and activities but wouldn’t have it any other way. 

Favorite/Most Rewarding part of my business? 

We source products small business from across the county. I love that a purchase from us supports hundreds of other mostly female owned small businesses.

Vacation Spot: Anywhere with sand, sun, water, and umbrella drinks

Sports Team: Ohio State Buckeyes

Morning Person or Night Owl? Definitely a morning person

Pets? Love cats, but dogs truly steal my heart.
